Tipton County Jail

Tipton County’s new 84-bed, 36,000 Sq Ft Jail and Sheriff’s Administration Building is located in Tipton, Indiana. The new construction project bid as a progressive design build delivery method. It was important to the County to get a contractor that provided a Non-proprietary system. Security Automation Systems (SAS) was chosen as the Electronic Safety & Security Contractor.
The elevated control room offers a 360-degree viewing area of inmate housing and also allows the intake area to be observed right from the control room. The 2-touchscreen control system controls 128 doors, 2 gates, 144 intercoms with 13 paging zones, 60 utility functions, 11 duress pushbuttons, 32 watchtour stations, 9 door release pushbuttons, 91 cameras, and 26 card access points.

Some of the product manufacturers used are: Omron PLC, Indusoft HMI, ExacqTechnologies Video Management System, Axis IP Cameras, Harding Instruments Digital Intercom and LenelS2 Access Control System.

One of the challenges correctional facilities face today is separating inmates into appropriate classifications. Tipton County’s new facility has 8 classifications including the first mental health unit in Indiana designed specifically for inmates with mental health issues.

This project included design, programming, panel assembly, installation of new security head-end equipment, testing and training.
